Making a Difference
February 7, 2007
While still new to this community, White River Academy has been reach-
ing out to the West Millard Care Center whenever possible. What started out
as an achievement of sorts, has led to a connection between the students and
the elderly. While just playing Monopoly with Tom, or reading and talking
to Francis, or even assisting the elderly ladies with bingo, we know that they
appreciate the little things that we can do for them. Plans are currently being
made to plant gardens around the Care Center for the upcoming spring. With
assisting with the Care Center, White River hopes to develop positive long
lasting relationships with the community.
One of the students at our boarding school wrote this poem:
What’s Inside
At night when I go to bed,
I see myself as all right,
But when I wake up in the morning,
It is a whole other fight.
I try to get the world to see me,
The way I want to be seen,
But all they see in me,
Is the way that I have been.
In the past people have told me,
You’re bad for what you’ve done,
But in reality it’s only made me,
A stronger person than anyone.
People can judge me all they want,
And even discourage me,
But I know that to my heart,
I’m the one that holds the key.
Have you ever lived my life?
Spent one minute in my shoes,
If you haven’t then tell my why,
You judge me the way you do.
